Injured 18-Year-Old Wife Pleads Against Husband’s Arrest Amid Abuse Claims

A young woman believed to be 18 years old has pleaded with authorities not to arrest her husband despite allegations that he physically abused her.

The incident gained public attention after a video surfaced on social media showing the visibly injured woman as neighbours confronted her husband over the alleged abuse. In the footage, residents accused the man of repeatedly assaulting the young woman and expressed concern for her safety.

The video showed the husband attempting to take the woman away while bystanders intervened and urged him to leave her alone.

In another video recorded at a hospital, the woman was seen alongside human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu. While discussions were ongoing about possible legal action against the husband, the woman appealed to authorities and members of the public not to have him arrested.

She stated that she had no intention of returning to the marriage and preferred to leave peacefully without further action being taken against her husband.

The videos have generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the woman’s condition and questioning why she appeared reluctant to support legal action against her alleged abuser.

Several users called on law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to investigate the matter and ensure the young woman’s safety.

Responding to concerns raised online, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency confirmed that it had taken notice of the case and was looking into the matter.

The incident has reignited conversations about domestic violence, the protection of young women in marriage, and the challenges authorities often face when victims are unwilling to pursue legal action against alleged offenders.
