Tinubu launches training for 5,000 meter installers

President Bola Tinubu has launched a training programme for 5,000 young Nigerians as meter installers and technicians under the Presidential Metering Initiative.

Tinubu said the initiative, known as The Power Force, is designed to create jobs, bridge the country’s metering gap and improve electricity supply.

The President disclosed this in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Thursday.

According to him, the programme will equip participants with practical technical skills while connecting them to employment opportunities in the power sector.

Tinubu said the initiative forms part of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at expanding employment opportunities for young Nigerians.

He explained that the programme would be open to eligible secondary school graduates, with a dedicated quota reserved for members of the National Youth Service Corps.

The President said expanding electricity metering was essential to ending estimated billing, protecting consumers and strengthening the electricity market.

According to him, proper metering would promote transparency in revenue collection by electricity distribution companies, reduce losses, improve infrastructure maintenance and support the expansion of electricity access.

Tinubu directed the Presidential Metering Initiative to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria and other relevant stakeholders to commence the programme within the next 30 days.

He urged qualified young Nigerians to apply, saying the initiative would provide marketable skills while supporting efforts to eliminate estimated billing and improve electricity service delivery across the country.
