FCT opens 2027 Hajj registration, fixes N7.5m minimum deposit

The Federal Capital Territory Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced registration for the 2027 Hajj exercise, directing intending pilgrims to make a minimum deposit of N7.5 million before the September 25 deadline.
The Board said the deposit, payable through a bank draft issued in favour of the FCT Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abuja, must be submitted on or before September 25, 2026, in line with the timetable set by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Board’s Chief Information Officer, Ahmad Saleh, prospective pilgrims were asked to submit the bank drafts at the Board’s headquarters in Gudu District, near the FCT Judicial Service Complex, Abuja, where registration is ongoing.
According to the statement, completed registration forms must be accompanied by a valid international passport that remains valid through October 2027, a photocopy of the National Identification Number (NIN) slip, four recent passport photographs with a white background, and a photocopy of the guarantor’s identity card with one passport photograph and valid contact numbers.
The Board also reminded intending pilgrims that it does not accept cash payments or registration by proxy.
It urged prospective pilgrims to complete their registration before the closing date to avoid missing the opportunity to participate in the 2027 Hajj exercise.
I like this angle because it tells readers immediately what is happening, how much they need to pay initially, and when the window closes, without bogging down the lead with procedural details. It also avoids the common trap of reporting the N7.5 million as the final Hajj fare when the release clearly calls it a minimum deposit.
