The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid is gaining momentum, predicting a bigger “rainbow coalition” of politicians across party lines ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Wike spoke on Friday during an inspection exercise in Abuja while reacting to the recent visit of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the political realignments taking place ahead of the election.
He said Adeleke’s decision to contest the Osun governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party was largely a result of the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stressing that the governor remained deeply rooted in the opposition party.
Wike said Adeleke’s recent alignment with Tinubu was part of a broader political movement that would attract more prominent politicians in the coming weeks.
“Key political figures across party lines including Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke are aligning behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under a expanding “rainbow coalition.
“Adeleke ran on the Accord Party platform due to internal wranglings within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. He remains deeply rooted in the PDP structure and is now fully committed to supporting the president ahead of 2027”, Wike added.
The FCT Minister said the crisis in major opposition parties had weakened their ability to mount a serious challenge against Tinubu, insisting that the 2027 presidential election was already taking shape in the president’s favour.
He also pointed to opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, saying the emerging political realignments were capable of keeping his rivals off-balance.
Wike maintained that more political figures from different parts of the country would realign in the coming weeks, arguing that the development would further strengthen the coalition backing Tinubu.
He insisted that the internal crises in the opposition had left no formidable political force capable of effectively challenging the president in 2027.
Wike said the unfolding realignments had reinforced his belief that the presidential election was “as good as concluded” in favour of Tinubu.
