The Federal Capital Territory Administration has warned veterinary officers against collecting money from residents during its two-week mass rabies vaccination exercise scheduled to begin across the six Area Councils.
The Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, ARDS, said the vaccination would be provided free of charge as part of efforts to protect residents from the potentially fatal disease.
The Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Dandam Karnak, gave the warning while addressing veterinary and animal health officials at the FCT Veterinary Clinic in Nyanya, where he represented the ARDS Mandate Secretary, Comrade Abdullahi Suleiman Ango.
Karnak charged the officers to maintain discipline and professionalism throughout the exercise, which will take them to communities across the six Area Councils.
He said the administration would provide the necessary support for the teams to ensure that the campaign reaches communities across the territory.
Karnak stressed that the vaccination was entirely free and warned that no officer should demand or accept payment from pet owners.
He said any officer found collecting money during the exercise would face disciplinary action, noting that the government was bearing the full cost of the vaccination campaign to protect residents.
