The Federal Government has assured parents and guardians of adequate security arrangements as all Federal Unity Colleges across the country prepare to resume academic activities for the 2026/2027 session on Monday, September 14.
The Federal Ministry of Education said relevant security agencies had been notified of the resumption plans and would maintain heightened vigilance around the colleges and their immediate environments to ensure the safe and orderly return of students and staff.
The Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, in a statement on Friday, said the ministry had put necessary arrangements in place to support a smooth and secure commencement of the new academic session, in line with the directive of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.
According to the ministry, the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the Federal Government’s efforts to provide a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Alausa urged parents and guardians to remain calm, rely on official information and proceed with preparations to ensure that their children and wards return to their respective Federal Unity Colleges on Monday as scheduled.
He also directed school authorities to maintain close coordination with security agencies and other relevant authorities to facilitate a peaceful and orderly resumption.
The minister called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work collectively to maintain a safe, peaceful and supportive school environment.
He stressed that safeguarding learners was a shared responsibility and urged all members of the school community to remain vigilant and cooperate with the relevant authorities.
The ministry said it would continue to monitor developments and take all necessary measures, in collaboration with appropriate authorities, to ensure the safe and seamless resumption of academic activities in Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
It reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and ensuring that Nigerian children have access to quality education in a safe and conducive learning environment.
The ministry said the commitment was consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places education and human capital development at the centre of Nigeria’s sustainable growth and national development.
