Wuse General Hospital, Abuja, has received medical equipment, drugs and other essential supplies from the FCT Emergency Management Department, FEMD, and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA.
The intervention is part of a partnership between the two agencies, which has also extended support to Kuje and Asokoro general hospitals in the FCT.
Representing the Director of FEMD, Engr. Mohammad Dikko, the department’s Deputy Director of Administration, Mohammed Usman Boyi, said the donation reflected FEMD’s commitment to promoting health and safety in the territory.
For the Deputy Director and Head of Relief and Rehabilitation at FEMD, Hajia Fatima Ibrahim, the intervention was driven by the need to address pressing needs at the hospital.
“This initiated the donations of medical equipment, drugs and medical supplies from FEMD in collaboration with NIMASA,” she said.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Hannatu Ovosi, while welcoming the support, acknowledged the challenges confronting the facility and the efforts being made to overcome them.
She said the supplies would help address some of the hospital’s immediate needs and thanked both agencies on behalf of the management and patients.
The hospital’s Secretary, Mr. Crown Ajayi, described the donation as timely, saying the items would make work easier for staff.
“You people brought almost the basic needs of the hospital, and it will go a long way to make our staff work with ease and with a level of satisfaction,” he said.
Ajayi urged other organisations to emulate the two agencies by extending similar support to healthcare facilities.
Items donated include an ECG machine, portable suction machines, examination couches, wheelchairs, hospital beds, drugs, trolleys, delivery kits, bedside lockers, an autoclave, blood pressure monitors, blood sugar testing kits and other essential medical supplies.
