The Houston police have disclosed that Elizabeth Tamilore Odunsi, a 23-year-old British woman of Nigerian descent who would have graduated this weekend was killed by her roommate last weekend after they had cat argument.

The police told KHOU 11 News that the deadly stabbing happened on April 26 at an apartment on Goforth Street in Houston’s south side.

Odunsi was found lying on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds.

The suspect, Chester Grant, reportedly tried to take his own life after the incident. Grant, 40, is now in jail.

Grant is accused of stabbing her to death after the two got into an argument a few days earlier about the cats that they both kept in the unit. The conflict reportedly snowballed — which led to the fatal stabbing.

Police said Odunsi and Grant were relatively new roommates for about two months.

Odunsi was from England but moved to Houston for nursing school. She was supposed to graduate this weekend, according to police.

Detectives said Grant tried to take his own life by stabbing himself six times, including in the side of the neck.

After a few days in the hospital, Grat appeared in probable cause court Saturday morning. He’s being held in the Harris County Jail on a $500,000 bond and is expected in court Monday.

Police continue to gather surveillance video and interview witnesses.

The murder is coming at the same time, a Nigerian nurse based in Leeds, United Kingdom, Nnena Miriam, was found dead in her apartment.

Fellow Nurses Africa, an organisation dedicated to advancing the nursing profession in Africa, Miriam’s body was discovered by the police after a missing person report was filed.

Concerned about her sudden absence from work and repeated unanswered calls, one of her close friends eventually filed a missing person report.

The police were said to have later found her lifeless body in her home.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the organisation stated, “It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we report the sudden passing of one of our own, Nnena Miriam, a dedicated and professional nurse based in Leeds, United Kingdom.

“Nurse Miriam was found dead in her room earlier this week under heartbreaking circumstances. According to reports, her last shift was on Sunday of last week.

“Alarm bells were raised when her close friend tried reaching out to her repeatedly from that Sunday without success. Growing increasingly worried, the friend filed a missing person report—only for the police to later discover her lifeless body in her apartment.”

It was further stated that Miriam had just returned to the UK after having her introduction ceremony in Nigeria, ahead of her traditional marriage.
