Police begin probe of young woman’s death in Gwarimpa hotel

Police in the Federal Capital Territory have launched full investigation into the death of a young lady body was discovered in a hotel room at 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa, on Tuesday, June 17.

The victim, identified as Aladi Johnson, popularly known as Tessy, was discovered unconscious with her hands tied behind her back by hotel staff during a routine service check.

The victim was later confirmed dead.

Viral videos showed the lady lying motionless on the hotel bed, her hands bound, with no sign of her companion.

A statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Wednesday, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim checked into a hotel located at 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, on 16th June, 2025, in the company of an unidentified male who was later observed to have exited the premises without her,” the statement noted.

According to the police, the hotel staff became suspicious after not seeing the guests, prompting them to check the room, where they found the woman unconscious.

“She was confirmed dead upon medical evaluation,” the police stated.

While urging the public to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigation, the Commissioner of Police used the moment to issue a strong public advisory, especially to young women.

“The Commissioner advises young ladies to exercise caution in their interactions, especially with unfamiliar individuals, and to always share their whereabouts with trusted friends or family members for safety purposes,” Adeh stated.

He also directed hotel operators across the capital to tighten their security systems to prevent such tragic occurrences.

“He calls on hotel operators to strengthen internal security protocols, including mandatory identity verification for guests and the installation of functional surveillance systems to aid both deterrence and investigation,” the statement added.

The Command expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.

“The Command commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice,” Adeh said.
