An Egyptian national, Mohammed Saleh, has died after reportedly slumping at a hotel in the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The incident was firtst sighted on the X handle of security expert, Zazazola Makama, on Sunday.
According to him, the 56-year-old collapsed on Friday night while having dinner with three other people at the Abuja Intercontinental Hotel.
He wrote, “Sources told Zagazola Makama that the deceased, identified as Mohammed Saleh, 56, slumped while having dinner with three others at the Abuja Intercontinental Hotel, Wuse Zone 4, on Friday night.
“The hotel’s security supervisor, Francis Yusuf, reported the matter to the police, Wuse Division, at about 9:24 p.m. on Friday.”
Makama further stated that Saleh was rushed to the King’s Care Hospital in Wuse Zone 4, before being referred to the Wuse District Hospital, where a doctor confirmed him dead.
He added that the corpse had been deposited in the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
“The police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he noted.
There have been several recorded cases of foreigners’ deaths in Nigeria, particularly in Lagos State, with causes often linked to natural or health-related conditions.
Spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, promised to confirm the development and revert to the media.
In March, the Lagos State Police Command began an investigation into the death of an 80-year-old Colombian national, Quesada Alfonso, whose body was discovered at a hotel in the FESTAC Town area of Lagos.
The then spokesperson of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, saying policemen were alerted to the discovery of the deceased’s body in his room at about 3:30 p.m.
According to him, the foreigner had been staying in the hotel for the last four months.
