Military moves to strengthen joint doctrine for operations

The Armed Forces of Nigeria has intensified efforts to strengthen joint doctrine development as part of moves to enhance operational effectiveness across its various theatres of operation.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Sani Uba, following a three-day working visit by a team from the Joint Doctrine and Warfare Centre (JDWC) to the Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai.

According to the statement, the JDWC team was led by the Director General of the centre, Aniedi Edet, who said the visit was aimed at harmonising doctrine development, standardising joint operational procedures and strengthening inter-service coordination.

Edet was quoted as saying that effective joint operations depend on unity of effort, shared situational awareness and seamless coordination among the services, stressing that doctrines must be informed by practical realities from active operational theatres.

The statement noted that Operation Hadin Kai provides critical lessons in joint planning, force integration, stabilisation operations and civil–military coordination, which are essential for developing responsive and adaptable joint doctrines.

It added that the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North East, Abdulsalam Abubakar, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to joint operational principles and full support for doctrine development anchored on field experience.

Abubakar was quoted as saying that structured and contemporary doctrine would improve decision-making, optimise the employment of joint capabilities and enhance operational coherence in complex security environments.

The statement further said both commanders underscored the importance of capability development and reforms in defence procurement, noting that the availability of critical military assets remains central to sustaining operational momentum and mission success.

According to the statement, the engagement featured detailed operational briefings and professional exchanges at the headquarters and various components of Operation Hadin Kai and concluded on Wednesday.
