Osun senator dumps APC, returns to PDP

The senator representing Osun Central, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing alleged breach of agreements over the party’s 2027 senatorial ticket.

Fadeyi announced his defection on Thursday, saying he had already notified the Senate of his decision and would contest the 2027 election for the Osun Central Senatorial District on the PDP platform.

The lawmaker had left the PDP for the APC in 2025 alongside four other National Assembly members but lost the APC senatorial ticket to Adekunle Adegoke (SAN).

In his resignation letter, Fadeyi alleged that the APC failed to honour an agreement on the party’s candidate selection process and abandoned plans to adopt a consensus arrangement for the senatorial ticket.

He said the conduct of the primary eroded his confidence in the party and undermined the principles of fairness, internal democracy and mutual trust.

Fadeyi also expressed dissatisfaction that while other lawmakers who defected with him secured return tickets, he was denied the opportunity to contest on the APC platform.

He, however, said his decision to leave the party was not directed against President Bola Tinubu but was based on his conviction that political parties should uphold democratic principles and honour agreements.
