Ortom Swears in Akase, Kputu As Special Advisers

By Scholastica Joseph, Makurdi

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has sworn in Mr. Terver Akase and Andrew Kputu as Special Advisers on Media/Publicity and Solid Minerals respectively.

The Abuja Inquirer recalls that Mr. Akase, who was Ortom’s Chief Press Secretary, CPS, had resigned in September 2021 to pursue his governorship ambition.

He was however not favoured by the zoning arrangement done by his party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Speaking during the swearing in, in Government House, Makurdi on Thursday, Governor Ortom, who was visibly elated to have him back, congratulated Mr Akase and Kputu explaining that their appointment was based on needs to increase the number of those offering quality services delivery to the Benue people.

While urging the youth to always be prepared to take up responsibilities, Ortom also noted that their appointment was part of his administration’s way of encouraging and empowering the youth.

The Governor who advised the youth not to envy one another but to be diligent and ask God’s direction said, “I have never been idle since I grew up and the way some of our youth are misbehaving is bad. Take the path of God and make an honourable living for yourself not minding the type of job. Be truthful, don’t be fraudulent, don’t steal. Follow the ways of God. So my children and youth, work very hard. You have the responsibility to prepare yourself for next level.

“For those who are yet to go to school, It is not late. If for any reason your education was truncated go back. My story should encourage you. You cannot be discouraged. You are able to go forward to take your destiny in your hands but do not despise your little beginnings.

He urged the new appointees to quickly settle down to the challenge of the new office and make their impact felt in the remaining part of his administration

He charged Mr Kputu, a geologist, to offer best advice on how Benue can liaise with the Federal Government to maximise the benefits that will be accruing from the Gold which was discovered in Kwande LGA of the state and that of other minerals.

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Terver Akase thanked the Governor for honouring them and promised not to disappoint him but to help in delivering dividends as captured in the administration’s blueprint.
