Minister seeks expansion of industrial education to grassroots

The Federal Capital Territory Administration is looking to expand technological education across schools in the territory, in order to groom the required crop of leaders that will contribute to the ongoing industrial revolution in the near future.

The FCT has hundreds of students drawn from four selected schools, currently being trained in science and information technology under the Forth Industrial Revolution Education, 4IR Education Africa initiative of the African Socio-Cultural Development Foundation.

FCT Minister, Mallam Mohammed Bello, while commending the foundation for their patriotism in training the students, called on them to also extend the programme to rural communities.

The minister, who was represented by the Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Alh. Sani Elkatuzu, at a launch organised by 4IR Education Africa in collaboration with the FCT-Secondary Education Board, said more schools, especially those in the rural areas be included in the scheme of the education programme.

He however promised, on behalf of the FCTA, to provide the needed support for the full implementation and actualisation of 4IR Education Africa in the FCT.

On her part, the Director FCT Secondary Education Board Mrs Nanre Emeje, commended the efforts of the organisation while calling on the students and parents to utilize the opportunity to embrace the 4IR Education saying that, “the children that we are talking about are technologically inclined so the forth industrial revolution education is the right way to go because they represent the next generation z”.

The CEO of the African Socio-Cultural Development Foundation, Dr. Anthony Chibo, said a total of 84 students from the 4 selected schools in the FCT have progressed to the next level of the 4IR Education training program designed to enable the youths compete favourably with their counterparts elsewhere in the world.

“This marks the beginning of the second phase of the 4IR Education Africa an introduction into the practical application of data science, Graphics and expose them further to Nano and Bio technology.” He said.

Chibo also disclosed that scholarships have been secured for ten successful students who will excell during the training to study any course of their choice in any part of the world.

He said 4IR Education Africa was launched in the FCT in 2021, out of a need to close the gap in technological advancement between the western world and Africa.
