Group hails DRTS boss over service delivery

The Accident Prevention and Rescue Initiative, APRI, a road traffic safety organization, has commended the Director, Directorate of Road Traffic Services, Dr. Abdul-Lateef Bello for his relentless efforts in improving service delivery of the DRTS since his appointment.

The group, in a statement noted that since the appointment of Dr. Abdul-Lateef Bello, there has been improvement in traffic management and enforcement of road traffic regulations in the FCT which has curtailed road crashes. 

The statement signed by the Executive Director of the organisation, Fidelis Nnadi, said the new DRTS boss has implemented various road traffic safety initiatives that have brought orderliness and sustainable sanity in the road transport and traffic sector in the FCT.

Some of the initiatives he said includes, the effective monitoring and enforcement on okada ban, sustenance of effective road traffic safety enforcement on FCT roads, eliminating the activities and operations of “One Chance” criminals, promoting and delivering on motivation of officers of the directorate and above all, ensuring zero tolerance to corruption in the DRTS. 

He commended the FCT Minister, Muhammed Bello, for his foresight in appointing Dr. Abdul-Lateef to head the Directorate which he said led to the positive results recorded in the sector.

Nnadi, who pointed that the National Bureau of Statistics index placed the FCT top in the cities with the highest records of road crashes, deaths and injuries compared to other states, is optimistic that the current approach, administrative and operational restructured system in the Directorate, there is great expectations that the FCT will move down the ladder of road crash index.

He therefore called on the FCT Minister to remain steadfast in supporting the directorate with required logistics and legislative approvals in the efforts of improving road crash prevention in FCT.
