The Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, to prioritize neglected communities such as Zaudna, Kaba, and Kagini by constructing access roads for them.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Saburi 1 and 2 road project in Abuja, Maikalangu lauded Wike’s commitment to infrastructure development, describing him as a “talk-and-do” minister. He noted that the Saburi road project commenced immediately after its flag-off in February 2024 and was completed in record time, boosting economic activities in Gwagwa Ward.
“In appreciation of your magical touch, the Gbagyi people have given you the name ‘Wike Abowoweyi,’ meaning ‘Wike, the Magician of our Time.’ Your Excellency, you have proven that governance can bring real change,” Maikalangu said.
Maikalangu highlighted several challenges faced by AMAC communities, emphasizing the plight of Zaudna, Kaba, and Kagini residents. He revealed that the road to these areas has been abandoned for decades due to the need for two bridges before construction can begin. He appealed to the minister to address this long-standing issue.
“The people of these communities have lost hope. I humbly beg you to come to their aid. Your intervention will be a lifeline for them,” he said.
The AMAC chairman also used the occasion to outline his administration’s achievements, including the construction of over 40 access roads, 40 solar-powered boreholes, 18 health centers, and 18 primary schools. He urged Wike to commission some of these projects, saying they reflect the council’s efforts to replicate his developmental strides.
In response, Minister Wike assured Maikalangu of his support and praised his leadership. “You have proven your capacity with the numerous projects you’ve undertaken. You deserve all the backing you can get,” Wike said.
Wike also promised to begin the construction of the Dei-Dei access road within a month, with completion expected before the end of the year.
Maikalangu further thanked the minister for approving police stations in Saburi and Takushara to enhance security and for the ongoing rehabilitation of major roads like the Life Camp-Fish Market-Karmo-Dei-Dei road.
“The people of AMAC will continue to remember your good works,” Maikalangu said. “We are grateful for your impact on our rural and urban communities.”
Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the AMAC Chairman, Kingsley Madaki, confirmed the council’s commitment to improving lives across its wards.
