Nigeria’s leading private sector think tank, The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to translate its economic gains of the last few years into better living standards for Nigerians.
The Group said the poverty in the land, growing unemployment and income disparity, does not reflect the economic progress that has been made in the last few years.
According to Mr. Olaniyi Yusuf, Chairman of the NESG Board, “Nigeria must chart a trajectory that ensures inter-generational and sustainable growth. The nation has encountered various economic and political obstacles in recent years, underscoring the urgent need to redesign its systems and address structural issues.” He was speaking at the pre-29th Nigerian economic summit press briefing in Abuja last week.
Also speaking at the Press Conference, The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, said there is an urgent need for the NESG to set priorities for Bola Tinubu Administration.
He added that the 29th Nigerian Economic Summit would provide an opportunity for a national economic review, while also creating the need to prioritize the growth of the Nation’s Economy that can potentially create jobs for millions of unemployed Nigerians. The theme of this year’s summit is Pathways to Sustainable Economic Transformation and Inclusion. And according to the organisers, there will be five sub-themes: Harnessing Human Capital Development; Stimulating Economic Growth; Mobilizing Finance for Sustainable Development; Promoting National Cohesion and Inclusion; and Reforming Public Institutions.
All previous Economic Summits have been well attended and this 29th Edition will be no different. The Federal Government and the Nigerian public will eager await its Communique.
