Only sadists will frown at Abuja’s dev’t – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has responded to those criticising the ongoing infrastructure development embarked upon by his administration, saying only sadists will be frown at the progress made so far.

Wike, who made the remark after inspecting some road projects around the city centre, said he will not be deterred by baseless criticism as the administration is focused on delivering quality services to the people.

The Minister who was responding to claims in some quarters that Abuja street lights were no longer working and that criminals had taken over the city said the claims were baseless and false.

He urged residents to commend the efforts being made by government towards the improvements of social infrastructures.

“Anybody who says that there are no improvements in terms of streetlights is a sadist. We are trying to make some repairs of those that have been vandalised, which is not easy.

“Like when you heard Salini say here that they’ve tested it, but they’ve not on it because they are waiting for commissioning. So maybe this is part of the areas that they think that is dark.

“When they say criminals, I think those who are saying so are part of the criminals themselves. We should be able to commend government when there are improvements. I didn’t say here that we are going to concentrate only on roads.

” We are saying we are going to dwell on the health sector, the education sector, even agriculture.

“These people know, it’s just that some Nigerians find it difficult to accept the reality on ground that things have changed”, he said.

The minister also assured that the recent assent of the 2024 Appropriation Act, will spur the revolution of projects in Abuja.

He said, ”What you will see will be revolution in terms of infrastructure. The projects you have been seeing are within the few months that Mr. President came in. With this budget, many things will be done not just on roads, but in the health sector and education sector, just be assured it will be a revolution in all sectors.”

Some of the projects inspected include, the ongoing road projects at Guzape Lot II handled by Gilmor Construction, the Goodluck Jonathan Expressway handled by Salini Nigeria Limited, road resurfacing projects in Asokoro, handled by Julius Berger, and the proposed Diplomatic Area.
