Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has received commendation from the Minister of Information, media experts, and other stakeholders over the state’s first-ever Annual Media Performance Report.
The report, which covered January 2024 to January 2025, was described as a bold step towards transparency and better communication between government and citizens.
In a statement issued on Monday by Ismaila Isah, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Ododo said the initiative was proof of his administration’s dedication to open governance.
“This report is not just a record of our achievements, but a way to engage the people of Kogi in a clear and transparent manner,” the governor said.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, said the report was “a good example of how tracking government activities can improve communication and decision-making.” He praised Isah and his team for a job well done.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade, said the initiative had changed how the media reported government activities in the state.
“It shows the government is proactive in telling its own story,” she said.
The Commissioner for Information, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, described the report as a product of teamwork. “This shows that good communication is possible when everyone works together,” he added.
Other notable voices who praised the report include former Commissioner for Information in the state and Chairperson of Blueprint Editorial Board, Hajia Zainab Suleiman Okino, and Professor Abiodun Adeniyi, Registrar of Baze University.
Okino said the report would “safeguard the legacy” of the Ododo administration, while Adeniyi called it “a groundbreaking effort that could inspire other states.”
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kogi, Ademu Seidu Haruna, said the report was key to promoting transparency. “It gives a full picture of the government’s media presence,” he noted.
Other commendations came from CPS to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yabagi Mohammed; Publisher of Nigerian Post, Michael Abu; CPS to former Deputy Governor, Yusuf Itopa; DG of Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Hajia Yusuf Nana Hauwa; and GM of NTA Lokoja, Yahaya Adam.
