The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress,APC, as the winner of the Edo State gubernatorial election held on September 21, 2024.
The announcement was made by the Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, following the collation of results in Benin City.
Okpebholo secured a total of 291,667 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes, and Labour Party, LP, candidate, Olumide Akpata, who polled 22,763 votes. The APC won in 11 local government areas, while the PDP took 7 LGAs.
The election result signifies a significant victory for the APC in Edo State.
