A total of 3,120 entries have so far been received from across the globe, to participate in the 14th edition of the Zuma International Film Festival, ZUFF, in Abuja, the Nigerian Film Corporation has disclosed.
The submissions, the Managing Director of NFC, Ali Nuhu, said were received from countries including Nigeria, Iran, India, the USA, Spain, and France in anticipation for the festival slated for the 1st to 5th of December, 2024.
Nuhu, who stated this at a pre-event press conference in Abuja announcing the 2024 ZUFF themed “Digital Renaissance: Embracing the Future”, said Vice President, Kashim Shettima is expected to deliver the NFC Annual Film Lecture: themed “Digital EcoSystems: Redefining African Cinema.”
He also announced that actress, Stephanie Okereke Linus, will serve as Head of Jury for ZUFF 2024, to work along with other film experts as Jury members, are charged with
processing and selecting winning entries.
While reaffirming NFC’s commitment to stakeholders, the government, and its global partners, Nuhu thanked FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Minister of State – FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, for providing an enabling environment for the festival.
He noted that the festival is more than an event, but a movement that promotes Nigeria’s cultural and creative economy as it will create jobs, empower youth, and foster collaboration across borders.
According to him, “this year, we highlight the transformative power of digital technology in filmmaking, with over 3,120 submissions from countries including Nigeria, Iran, India, the USA, Spain, and France.”
He listed the festival highlights to include Zuma Film Festival Light up Night and Opening Ceremony- holding on 1 December, 2024 at Jabi Lake Mall, Artificial Intelligence in filmmaking session, ree film Screenings: across selected venues in Abuja.
In her goodwill message, FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, noted that this year’s festival promises to spotlight diverse narratives that resonate with “our shared humanity, reminding us of the power of film to challenge perceptions and spark change.”
She called on her colleague, the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, to put in place modalities that will sustain and outlive the present administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“To us in the nation’s capital, this festival is not just a showcase of cinematic creativity; it is a vibrant platform that builds collaboration, inspiration, and cultural exchange.
“In a world increasingly shaped by visual storytelling, your contributions are vital in bridging cultures and igniting conversations”, she stressed.
