Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has inaugurated the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers to boost electricity supply and enhance rural development across the state.
The flag-off ceremony for the first phase of the rural electrification project took place at the Government House in Lokoja.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo described the initiative as a significant step toward fulfilling his promise to “light up” rural communities and empower citizens.
He explained that the project was conceived in response to requests received from communities through the Ministry of Rural and Energy Development and would be implemented with fairness across the three senatorial districts.
“In the spirit of fairness and equity, I have directed that these 30 transformers be distributed across the three senatorial districts,” the governor said. “This ensures that the benefits of this crucial infrastructure project are felt simultaneously and equitably across our state.”
Ododo added that the initiative was not only about electricity but also an investment in commerce, education, healthcare, and improved livelihoods for residents.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engr. Abdulmutalib Mohammed, said the project followed a technical assessment of community needs and would be expanded to reach more areas in subsequent phases.
He noted that the initiative would stimulate business activities and improve the quality of life for residents, commending the governor for addressing rural power challenges.
