Peter Obi lied, no death threats issued – APC

The All Progressives Congress, APC, National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, has dismissed allegations by former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, that his life and family were threatened.

Morka in a statement on Tuesday, in Abuja, described the claims as “patently false” and accused Obi of playing the victim to gain public sympathy.

Obi, in a post on his verified X handle, alleged that Morka had warned he would “face consequences” for crossing the line following his New Year message.

However, Morka has refuted the allegations, insisting, “I did not threaten Obi or anyone. Nothing I said in that interview or any other forum remotely suggests a threat.”

The controversy stems from Morka’s interview on Arise TV on January 4, 2025, where he accused Obi of irrational commentary and failing to reflect on his electoral defeat.

“Mr. Obi has crossed the line so many times. At this point, he has coming to him whatever he gets. He should manage it,” Morka said during the interview, clarifying later that the statement referred to political criticisms, not threats.

Morka criticized Obi for disseminating false information, he stated, “Obi must think himself Nigeria’s sacred cow, entitled to deride and incite others without challenge. He peddles falsehood and mobilizes outrage against the government, which is unacceptable.”

Highlighting policy contradictions, Morka reminded Nigerians that Obi had promised to remove fuel subsidies, abolish the dual foreign exchange system, and transform Nigeria into a production economy.

“President Tinubu’s administration has implemented these promises, yet Obi incites Nigerians against these policies,” Morka said, accusing Obi of “crossing the line of truth.”

The APC also accused Obi’s online supporters of bullying and issuing death threats against critics.

“By falsely claiming I threatened him, Obi incited his followers to make death threats against me and my family. That is reprehensible,” Morka added.

The APC has called on Obi to retract his allegations, set the record straight, and caution his supporters. Morka said,

“I will continue to hold Obi accountable for his words and actions, just as opposition leaders should hold our administration accountable when truth and public trust are at stake.”
