The All Progressives Congress, APC, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Oriyomi Onanuga.

Onanuga, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State, passed away on Wednesday.

She was a second-term lawmaker and a prominent member of the APC, first elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023.

In a statement by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party described Onanuga as a “highly cerebral legislator and entrepreneur.”

“Rt. Hon. Onanuga, fondly called ‘Ijaya’ by friends and associates, distinguished herself as a fine and vibrant lawmaker. She served as Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development before her elevation to Deputy Chief Whip in 2023,” the statement read.

Born in Hammersmith, London, on December 2, 1965, Onanuga was known for her dedication to public service and commitment to her constituents.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her immediate family, the leadership and members of the House of Representatives, her constituents, and the people of Ogun State at this difficult time,” Morka added.

The APC called her passing a tragic loss and prayed for the repose of her soul. “May her soul find eternal rest. Amen,” the statement concluded.
