FCTA inaugurates national health fellows selection committee

As part of efforts aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT Administration, has established the National Health Fellows Selection Committee.

The FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, HSES, is optimistic that the move will support the federal government’s drive to recruit young health professionals across all 774 LGAs.

Mandate Secretary of the HSES, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, emphasized the fellows’ critical role in monitoring Primary Healthcare Centres, providing feedback, and enhancing efficient healthcare services.

The 7-member committee, chaired by WHO State Coordinator Dr. Kumshida Yakubu Balami, is tasked with ensuring a transparent and merit-based selection process.

Members of the committee include Dr. Baba-Gana Adam, Permanent Secretary, HSES, Dr. Dan Gadzama, Acting Director, Public Health Department ( Academia) and Dr. Theresa Nwachukwu, Acting Director, Planning, Health Planing Research & Statistics (SWAP – desk officer).

Other committee members are Dr. Aderonke Akande, Acting Director, Disease Control Unit, Primary Health Care Board, Mrs Maimuna Abdullahi, Initiative for health accountability and transparency (NGO) and Mr Danladi Chiya, LG
Representatives (ALGON).
