CIPMN to begin enforcement of mandatory certification April 1

The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria, CIPMN, has announced that it will commence full enforcement of its mandatory certification for all project managers operating in the country from April 1.

Registrar-General of CIPMN, Mr. Henry Mbadiwe, made this known after a working visit by the institute’s newly inaugurated governing council to the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh, in Abuja.

Mbadiwe emphasized that the enforcement aims to ensure both local and foreign professionals comply with established project management standards.

“The law is clear: no one can lead any project in Nigeria without a valid license from the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria. Foreign nationals intending to practice project management in Nigeria must also obtain CIPMN certification,” he said.

He warned that non-compliance constitutes a legal violation, and the institute is fully prepared to take necessary actions to enforce the regulations.

“Our enforcement strategy includes ongoing sensitization campaigns targeted at businesses, companies, and government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). For over two years, we have been educating stakeholders, and now we will intensify efforts at grassroots levels to ensure full compliance,” he said.

Mbadiwe further disclosed that an enforcement committee has been set up to assess compliance nationwide over the next six months.

Also speaking, the Chairman and President of CIPMN’s governing council, Chief Olabode Afolayan, said the institute will adopt a balanced “carrot-and-stick” approach to enforcement.

He assured Nigerians that strict adherence to professional project management standards would positively impact the nation’s economy, particularly its Gross Domestic Product, GDP.
