The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has dismissed media reports suggesting it has recognised certain individuals as National Chairman and National Secretary of the Labour Party, LP, or reinstated a particular person as National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, in a statement on Thursday, described the reports as false and misleading.
Oyekanmi clarified that the Commission has not taken any decision regarding the leadership tussles in either party.
According to him, the names currently on the Commission’s website reflect previous court orders unrelated to the recent Supreme Court judgment concerning the LP.
He added that similarly, the PDP’s listing has not been altered, neither reinstated nor removed.
“As a law-abiding institution, the Commission is carefully studying the Supreme Court’s judgement on the Labour Party and will communicate its official position in due course,” Oyekanmi stated.
