Youth empowerment is priority of Tinubu’s agenda – Mahmoud

By Sarah NEGEDU

Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has said that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has placed youth empowerment at the heart of its Renewed Hope Agenda, describing young people as the driving force of Nigeria’s future.

She made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 orientation course of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Kubwa, Abuja.

Mahmoud said government was committed to equipping young Nigerians through skills development, entrepreneurship support, digital innovation and job creation initiatives, with the aim of turning them into job creators rather than job seekers.

“The goal is to reduce unemployment, foster innovation and strengthen socio-economic development,” she said, while assuring that the FCT Administration under Minister Nyesom Wike would continue to support the NYSC’s objectives and provide an enabling environment for corps members to excel.

The minister therefore urged the corps members to carry forward the lessons learned during orientation saying, “The values of discipline, unity, patriotism and service to humanity should guide your conduct at all times.”

She also reminded them to be security conscious, respect the cultures of their host communities, and serve as ambassadors of peace and development.

On his part, the FCT NYSC Coordinator, Samson Ateli, described the scheme as a national asset that promotes peaceful coexistence and national development by deploying corps members across different sectors of the economy.

He advised the corps members to accept their postings in good faith and desist from inducing rejections.

“I urge you to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development, SAED, programme and register for your post-camp SAED training,” Ateli said.
