The Federal Capital Territory Administration has stepped up its fight against infectious diseases with a high-level summit in Abuja, even as it deepens collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force hospital in Asokoro.
On Tuesday, the Mandate Secretary for Health and Environment, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, played host at the Infectious Disease Summit organised in partnership with the National AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs Control Programme, NASCP, and Trinity Healthcare Foundation, THF.
The one-day event, held at Valencia Hotel, Abuja, was themed “Synergizing Efforts to End Infectious Diseases: Strengthening Investment, Innovation, and Collaboration against HIV, Viral Hepatitis, Syphilis, and Malaria in the FCT.”
The summit brought together government officials, private sector actors and development partners to explore joint approaches in prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Dignitaries at the session included the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Baba-Gana Adam, Ms. Claire Omatseye of JNCI, and representatives of Abbott.
In a separate development, the Mandate Secretary also received the management of the 065 Nigerian Air Force Hospital, Asokoro, led by Wing Commander Z. I. Avre, on a courtesy visit to her office.
The hospital management sought recognition as part of the FCT health system and pledged to work closely with the administration in service delivery.
Dr. Fasawe commended the team and assured them of support. She further directed that malaria drugs and other available medical supplies be donated to the facility, describing the hospital as “part of the FCT health family.”
The collaboration, she noted, would foster mutual benefits such as referrals, outreach programmes and joint health initiatives.
The visiting team included Wing Commander A. C. Nuhu, Squadron Leader O. Ugwuoko, Flight Lieutenant K. O. Suara, and Sergeant Haruna Comfort.
