The Federal Government has inaugurated a working committee to launch the Confederation of African Fashion, Afroliganza, a move aimed at boosting Africa’s fashion industry and creating new opportunities for designers, artisans, and entrepreneurs.

In a statement by SA Media & Publicity,Nneka Ikem Anibeze, the committee was described as a key step towards developing policies that will grow the creative industry, create jobs, and increase its contribution to the nation’s GDP.

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, said the committee will ensure the fashion sector benefits all Nigerians and works closely with the private sector.

Responding, Dr. Lai Labode, founder of Afroliganza, said the Confederation aims to raise Africa’s share of the global fashion market from 1.2% to a much higher level, boosting the continent’s fashion economy from $30 billion to $500 billion.

The committee will also plan the Fashion Extravaganza, where African countries will compete and showcase their creativity, with the first edition scheduled for Abuja and Egypt in 2026.

The initiative is part of the FG’s plan to promote African culture, create jobs, encourage industrialization, and position Nigeria as a hub for fashion and creative excellence.
