The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to modernizing healthcare delivery in Nigeria through digital innovation.
This follows remarks by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, during a recent international health technology gathering.
Dr. Salako told participants at the HIMSS Eurasia HealthTech Conference in Turkey that Nigeria is determined to build a resilient, technology-driven, and people-centered health system.
“The Federal Government is implementing a strategic agenda anchored on better governance, quality service delivery, unlocking the healthcare value chain, and strengthening health security,” he said.
The minister emphasized that digital health solutions are central to improving service delivery, public health surveillance, and coordination across the healthcare system.
He highlighted ongoing investments in interoperable health systems, robust data governance frameworks, and initiatives aimed at increasing access for rural and underserved communities.
A key part of Nigeria’s digital health agenda is the Nigeria Digital in Health Initiative, NDHI, which includes the development of a National Digital Health Architecture, NDHA, to unify and standardize digital health services nationwide.
Salako noted that foundational digital infrastructure such as health information exchanges, shared health records, and national registries will strengthen identity management, service delivery, and workforce planning.
The minister also highlighted collaborations with private-sector innovators, start-ups, and international partners, saying such partnerships are essential to building a more inclusive and resilient health system.
He stressed that equity, affordability, and context-specific solutions are crucial as Nigeria leverages technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, and advanced data analytics.
Dr. Salako concluded that global collaboration is vital, saying, “Our world is connected, and so is our health. Together, through partnerships, we can build a healthier, more resilient, and more inclusive world.”
