The Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor on Electronic Media in the Office of the First Lady, Janet Samuel, has empowered over 100 vulnerable women in Okehi Local Government Area as part of a Christmas outreach programme.
Samuel said this during the outreach held at Uboro/Omavie/Ohuepe Ward in Okehi, where widows, persons with disabilities and elderly women received food items and cash support to celebrate the festive season.
She said the initiative was aimed at easing the burden of the yuletide for vulnerable members of the community and was inspired by her commitment to giving back to society.
According to her, the outreach aligns with the Renewed Hope agenda being championed in Kogi State by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his wife, Sefinat Usman Ododo.
The beneficiaries, made up of both Christians and Muslims, received 5kg bags of rice, food ingredients and cash donations, underscoring what she described as the inclusive nature of the initiative.
Samuel commended the governor for his people-oriented policies, including prompt payment of salaries and infrastructural development, which she said have improved the welfare of residents across the state.
She also praised the First Lady for her support for women and vulnerable groups through empowerment programmes and humanitarian interventions at the grassroots.
She assured the beneficiaries of more dividends of democracy and urged women in the area to continue to support and pray for the success of the current administration.
Also speaking, a former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Okehi Local Government Area, Hon. Dauda Momohjimoh, thanked the state government for ongoing road projects linking communities in the area.
Momohjimoh also appealed to the government to address the need for clean and potable water in the community.
Earlier, the Ward Special Assistant to the Governor, Hon. Hajara Achi, thanked the governor and the First Lady for their support, noting that the outreach would help cushion the effects of economic hardship.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Asmau Umar, described the gesture as unprecedented in the community, saying it was the first time residents were receiving such support during Christmas.
She offered prayers for the governor, the First Lady and the organisers, wishing them success ahead of the 2027 elections.
