NLNG trains 32 journalists on AI, digital reporting

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG, Limited has trained 32 journalists from different media organisations on artificial intelligence and digital reporting tools, as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism in Nigeria’s media space.

The three-day capacity-building workshop, held in Abuja in collaboration with the Journalism Clinic under the #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative, exposed participants to the fast-changing demands of modern journalism, with a focus on digital communication, audience engagement and real-time reporting.

Speaking at the workshop, the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, Mrs Sophia Horsfall, said capacity development remains a core pillar of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility agenda.

She described journalism as a calling that informs, educates and influences society, urging participants to apply the skills acquired to improve the quality and impact of their reporting.

Horsfall expressed optimism that the journalists would continue to enlighten the public and tell stories that align with NLNG’s vision of being a globally competitive energy company that improves lives sustainably.

She also highlighted the company’s broader support for the media sector, including the NLNG Prize for Energy Reporting at the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence.

Earlier, the Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Mrs Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, said the company’s investments in media training were deliberate and aimed at raising professional standards.

According to her, the workshop went beyond theory to address the real pressures of today’s digital newsroom, such as speed, verification, audience trust and relevance.

The training was facilitated by digital communication expert, Dan Mason, alongside the Journalism Clinic led by media veteran, Taiwo Obe. Participants received hands-on training in digital storytelling, data visualisation, online fact-checking and effective management of digital platforms.

The #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative has so far empowered over 180 journalists across Nigeria with enhanced digital communication and social media skills.
