CAS joins Tinubu on Türkiye visit to boost defence

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has accompanied President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Türkiye on an official working visit aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s defence posture and air power capability.

The visit, which began on January 26, 2026, also included the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, and focused on deepening bilateral cooperation between both countries.

During the trip, President Tinubu held talks with Turkish authorities, leading to the signing of nine Memoranda of Understanding covering defence, trade, education, media and technology.

As part of the engagements, Aneke and the defence minister visited major Turkish defence firms, including ASELSAN, Turkish Aerospace Industries and HAVELSAN, to review procurement, training, maintenance and research collaboration.

The Nigerian Air Force said the discussions would improve access to advanced aerospace technology and enhance operations against terrorism, banditry and insurgency.

The Air Force added that the visit aligns with ongoing efforts to modernise the military and improve national security.
