I welcome you to another Monday Nugget, and the first Monday in the month of February 2026.
One of the worst things ever to happen to you is to be caught unaware or unnoticed.
Just a few years ago, a politician’s conversation was recorded asking for a bribe from a business mogul; that conversation took the “Honourable” to the Kuje Correctional Centre for years, and he was recently pardoned by Mister President.
In warning God’s children in the end time, we were told to “stay alert and watch out.” To be alert and watch out has to do with the word “sobriety,” and it is the state of being serious, sensitive, and solemn.
As a pastor, I can categorically say that a lot of people are caught unaware because they have not been watchful. When we are not sober or watchful, it is tied to our personal prayer life and studying of the Word of God and other great materials—like Daniel, who “understood by books.”
Many years ago, when you went to the Christian bookstore, what did you find on the shelves? Books on prayers like E.M. Bounds, Leonard Ravenhill (Why Revival Tarries), Charles G. Finney, and Jonathan Edwards, to mention but a few. Fast forward to today: the preponderance of books on earthly earnings and acquisitions truly reveals that people are not alert and watchful at all.
Do you know that someone—John Knox—prayed in the 16th century, “Give me Scotland, or I die”? A Yoruba Gospel artist rendered it succinctly: “Satani osimi, Kristiani lon simi”—meaning that Satan prowls around and walks assiduously, but the Christians are sleeping!
The truth of this matter is that churches are closing in their numbers in most Western countries, and it is sickening. The devil will only devour the careless ones, and that’s why you must stay alert.
Now, I wonder how long it will take the Second Coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus to come, but if you die suddenly, that’s your Second Coming. In January alone, over 30 people have died in unplanned plane crashes worldwide.
Reduce the influence of the world’s standards on your life and remember that you are a pilgrim, and you must travel light. Recently, where I live in Abuja, there’s an influx of land speculators giving flyers to prospective clients, and I wonder if people know that they will not take a single piece of land out of this world. After he saw it all, the wise man, King Solomon, said that “vanities upon vanities, all is vanity.”
Following God will not deprive you of having things, but Jesus Christ said that you cannot serve two masters. So, God is a Master and Mammon (the god of money) is equally a master. The truth is, there is every single chance to forget about God as you pursue things.
Stay alert and be watchful, because your pastor or man of God cannot do that for you. Jesus Christ promised that we should “seek God’s kingdom and its righteousness first,” and then every other thing shall be added unto us. Seeking God is personal, and you must know that you know that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Stay alert and watch out for the devil, who prowls aimlessly like a lion, not to devour you. God will help you to be sober and be vigilant till His Second Coming in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
