BYD, GRACO hail NCCC DG over AIPA honorary doctorate

BYD Motors Nigeria Limited and the Grassroots Centre for Rights and Civic Orientation have congratulated the Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change, Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi, on her induction as a Fellow and conferment of an honorary Doctorate Degree by the Africa Institute of Public Administration.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BYD Motors Nigeria Limited, Chief Moses Ayom, and the Executive Director of GRACO, Armsfree Ajanaku, the organisations described the honour as a testament to Majekodunmi’s commitment to excellence and impactful climate governance.

They said the recognition reflects the strategic and transformative leadership she has demonstrated since her appointment as Director-General of the NCCC in October 2025.

The statement noted that Majekodunmi has brought renewed vigour to Nigeria’s climate mitigation and adaptation agenda, while also advancing a balanced approach in global climate discussions.

According to them, she has consistently reiterated Nigeria’s position as an oil-dependent economy that must nevertheless establish a robust framework for climate action.

The organisations further commended her role in championing a just transition that protects the livelihoods and welfare of Nigerians dependent on the oil economy.

They also highlighted her efforts in leveraging climate finance opportunities, including Nigeria’s launch of its carbon market framework and participation in the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance Fund Programme.

BYD Motors Nigeria Limited and GRACO reaffirmed their commitment to supporting climate-smart livelihood initiatives and encouraging small and medium-sized enterprises to take advantage of emerging climate finance opportunities.

They wished the NCCC Director-General continued success in her service to the nation.
