The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has called on specialised reporters covering the nation’s power sector to leverage their access to information to strengthen industry reporting and enhance public understanding of electricity issues.
Executive Chairman of NERC, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, made the call on Monday during a courtesy visit by the Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria, PCAN, to the Commission.
Oseni, who welcoming the association’s partnership, stressed the critical role of the media in shaping public perception and driving support for ongoing reforms in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI.
He noted that well-informed and responsible reporting is essential to bridging the information gap between regulators, operators, and electricity consumers.
According to him, improved public awareness of regulatory policies, market developments, and consumer rights will ultimately contribute to a more efficient and transparent power sector.
Also speaking, the Chairman of PCAN, Obas Esiedesa, commended the Commission for advancing digital transparency and maintaining a proactive approach to data sharing with stakeholders.
Esiedesa reaffirmed the association’s commitment to promoting deeper, more accurate, and data-driven reporting on the power sector, stressing that credible journalism remains key to fostering accountability and building trust within the industry.
