Fubara’s brother joins Rivers governorship race

Blessing Fubara, brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his intention to contest the state’s governorship election on the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

The governorship aspirant said he is prepared to provide leadership that will restore peace, stability, and economic growth in Rivers State.

Speaking ahead of the party’s primary election, Fubara described himself as a capable and energetic candidate committed to addressing the challenges facing the state.

According to him, Rivers State has lost significant economic and political opportunities in recent years, a situation he said requires urgent intervention.

“We have lost opportunities. We have lost investments. We have lost our dignity as a people and our pride as Rivers people,” he said.

Fubara called on residents across political, ethnic, and social divides to support efforts aimed at rebuilding the state and restoring confidence in governance.

He also pledged to uphold the state’s political zoning arrangement, insisting that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District should complete its turn in the governorship rotation.

The aspirant promised to serve only one term if elected, saying the decision was aimed at preserving the existing power-sharing structure and promoting political stability.

“I have vowed to do just a four-year one-term tenure to bring the expected prosperity and development in Rivers State,” he said.

Fubara further argued that electoral success should not be determined by financial strength alone, maintaining that popular support remained the most important asset in politics.

He urged party members and supporters across the state’s 23 local government areas to mobilise ahead of the NDC primary election.

The governorship hopeful also appealed for unity among party stakeholders, saying collective action was necessary to restore peace, strengthen governance, and return Rivers State to a path of growth and development.
