The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a major restructuring of its leadership, unveiling a new Directorate of State (DOS) and restoring previously suspended and expelled members to the organisation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, said the third administration of the Directorate of State had been dissolved and replaced with a fourth administration headed by United States-based Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ.
According to the statement, the new leadership is expected to oversee the administration, coordination and day-to-day affairs of the movement under Kanu’s directives.
The group said the decision followed what it described as shortcomings in the performance of the outgoing administration, including alleged neglect of detained members, internal divisions, communication challenges and a failure to advance key objectives of the organisation.
IPOB stated that the new administration had been mandated to restore unity, strengthen internal structures, improve welfare support for members and refocus the movement on its core objectives.
As part of the reorganisation, the group also announced the establishment of an Elders Advisory Council, which it said would provide strategic guidance and institutional support to both the leadership and the Directorate of State.
The statement further directed all coordinators, unit heads and officers worldwide to establish contact with the organisation’s headquarters for further directives.
In addition, IPOB declared that all previous suspensions and expulsions had been set aside, with affected members restored to their former positions pending administrative review by the new leadership.
The organisation urged its members and supporters to remain united and disciplined as the new administration assumes office.
