The Federal Government has commended the Kano State Government for its sustained investment in education, describing the recruitment of thousands of teachers and expansion of learning infrastructure as a major boost to human capital development and quality education.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, gave the commendation on Tuesday during the presentation of appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers and 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All, BESDA, Cohort V facilitators in Kano State, where he urged the beneficiaries to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.
In a statement issued by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah, Alausa described teachers as the foundation of every successful society, stressing that the quality of education depends largely on the commitment and competence of those in the classroom.
Addressing the newly recruited teachers and other stakeholders, the minister said educators play a critical role in shaping future generations and determining the nation’s development trajectory.
“You are the most important people in our society. If we have good teachers teaching Nigerian children, we will produce very good students. Please take your time, love them, nurture them and teach them well,” he said, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedication, integrity and excellence.
Alausa praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising education, noting that Kano’s decision to allocate 32 per cent of its budget to the sector demonstrates strong political will and commitment to human capital development.
He said the recruitment of nearly 9,000 teachers and facilitators, bringing the total employed by the present administration to 16,000 within three years, ranks among the most significant education interventions by any state government in recent years.
The minister also applauded the state government’s investments in school infrastructure, road rehabilitation and solar street lighting, saying the initiatives complement the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and will improve the quality of life for residents.
Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to working with state governments and development partners to improve teacher quality, expand access to modern learning facilities and implement reforms that will deliver equitable, inclusive and globally competitive education across Nigeria.
Earlier, Alausa inspected the Tarda Smart School in Ungogo Local Government Area, where he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding technology-driven education nationwide. He described smart schools as essential to preparing Nigerian students with the digital skills required for the 21st-century economy.
He also visited Bayero University, Kano, before commissioning the newly constructed Government Girls Secondary School, Dangwaro, aimed at expanding access to quality education for girls and strengthening secondary education in the state.
Speaking at the event, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described the presentation of appointment letters as a major milestone in Kano’s education reform programme, saying the recruitment exercise was designed to improve learning outcomes and secure a better future for the state’s children.
The governor reiterated that education remains the cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda and appreciated President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Education, development partners and other stakeholders for supporting the state’s education reforms.
