President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her historic election as the first elected female President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, describing her emergence as a landmark achievement for Nigeria’s legal profession and a victory for merit, excellence and gender inclusion.
Tinubu said Badejo-Okusanya’s election reflects her distinguished career, marked by integrity, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to justice, adding that her colleagues across the country had demonstrated confidence in her leadership.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, he expressed confidence that the new NBA President would strengthen the legal profession by upholding the rule of law and championing reforms that would improve access to justice for all Nigerians.
According to the President, Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence also underscores the increasing recognition of the vital contributions of women to nation-building and the administration of justice.
He urged the new NBA President to work closely with stakeholders in advancing judicial reforms, safeguarding the sanctity of the Constitution and sustaining the legal profession’s role as a critical pillar of Nigeria’s democracy.
Congratulating her on the milestone, Tinubu said her election had once again demonstrated that Nigerian women could attain the highest levels of professional excellence in both the private and public sectors.
“I extend my hearty congratulations to the President-elect of the NBA for her victory. As the first elected female president of the Association of Lawyers in Nigeria, Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya has made history.
“She has once again shown that our women can attain any heights in pursuit of excellence in their careers and ambitions, both in the private sector and in public service,” the President said.
Tinubu also advised her to foster unity within the Bar by reaching out to her fellow contestants and addressing concerns that arose during the election process.
He wished Badejo-Okusanya a successful tenure and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the Nigerian Bar Association to deepen democratic governance, promote justice and build a more prosperous and united Nigeria.
