2027: 40,000 Abia farmers endorse PDP gov candidate Anosike

Over 40,000 farmers under the , Abia State chapter, have endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Dr Kelechi Anosike, ahead of the February 6, 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was announced by the state chairman of AFAN, Mike Okezie, when he led the association’s executives to meet Anosike at his campaign office in Umuahia.

Okezie said the farmers decided to support the PDP candidate because of his proposed policies on agriculture, food security, rural development and farmers’ welfare.

He said the proposals, including Operation Feed Abia, restoration of agricultural extension services, farm mechanisation, grants and revitalisation of farm settlements, could address some of the challenges facing farmers in the state.

AFAN also resolved to mobilise its members across the 17 local government areas to participate peacefully in the election and promote Anosike’s agricultural policies.

Responding, Anosike approved the creation of a Farmers Directorate within his campaign council, with representation from farmers across the state.

He promised that, if elected, farmers would have a prominent role in his administration.

Anosike also pledged to boost food production through Operation Feed Abia, restore agricultural extension services, provide farm grants and support modern farming practices.

He said his administration would promote agricultural value chains, revitalise farm settlements and establish a Rural Development Agency to improve rural infrastructure.

The PDP candidate described the 2027 election as a “referendum of ideas, not insults,” saying his campaign would focus on policies and development issues.
