ICPC moves to prosecute fake journalist over N14m fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, is set to prosecute Mr. Alkazim Kabir, also known as Abbati Kabiru Abuwa, for allegedly defrauding multiple victims of about N14 million.

The commission in a statement by its Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, Demola Bakare, said the decision followed several petitions accusing the suspect of fraud, impersonation, and false claims of being linked to top government officials.

ICPC investigations revealed that Mr. Kabir allegedly posed as an aide to the President, Vice President, and members of the National Assembly to deceive and extort money from unsuspecting individuals.

He was said to have collected $3,300 and 1,620 Saudi Riyals from two victims, claiming he could use his supposed connections to assist them.

The Commission also found that during a religious trip to Mecca, the suspect borrowed 11,000 Saudi Riyals from a fellow traveler and later sent a fake bank alert as proof of repayment. He also allegedly issued a forged ₦3.2 million transfer receipt to a travel agent who arranged his travel bookings.

ICPC confirmed that charges have been filed and the suspect will be arraigned in court once the case is assigned.
