FCT-IRS pursues reforms to boost efficiency, staff welfare

By Sarah NEGEDU

The leadership of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, FCT-IRS, said it is intensifying reforms aimed at improving operational efficiency, staff welfare, and service delivery within the tax system in the territory.

Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Michael Ango, over the weekend, also announced plans to introduce a fully automated, merit-based promotion examination system, improved working conditions across tax offices, and the

procurement of staff buses to ease staff commuting challenges, as some of the reforms soon to be introduced.

Ango who disclosed this over the weekend, at an event organised by staff of the FCT-IRS in recognition of his visionary leadership, stated that the initiatives are aimed at linking staff welfare directly with productivity and operational effectiveness.

The gathering tagged, “A Night with Ango”, celebrated the chairman’s efforts to transform the FCT-IRS into a modern, efficient, and staff-friendly institution.

While expressing gratitude to the staff for the honour, the chairman reaffirmed his dedication to building an organisation that prioritises staff welfare, professional growth, and service excellence.

“I am very honoured and very appreciative of your efforts to appreciate me. When I first resumed, I made a commitment to ensure that staff welfare, particularly salary increments and career progression, remain at the top of our agenda. I want to assure you that, by the grace of God and with your support, we will achieve these goals.”

He emphasized that the reforms are not about individual achievements but building an institution that endures.

According to him, “Leaders will come and go, employees will come and go, but the organisation will remain. What we are building today will stand the test of time so that our children and their children can find pride in working here one day.”

Ango therefore called on staff to remain committed, united, and optimistic as the Service continues to pursue reforms that will enhance operational efficiency and improve overall productivity.

Staff at the event commended the chairman for his accessibility, humility, and commitment to improving conditions for all employees, saying his initiatives are already having tangible impact on morale and productivity.
