The Federal Government has ordered the shutdown of 47 Federal Unity Colleges across some states in the North to forestall bandit attacks and kidnapping.
Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, approved the immediate closure of the institutions in Friday, in a circular signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education at the ministry, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir.
The circular, addressed to all principals of Federal Unity Colleges, said the shutdown was sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches.
The circular also directed principals of affected colleges to ensure strict compliance.
With the exception of FGC Apo, the shutdown affected all Federal Government Colleges around Abuja.
The affected schools include; FGGC Minjibir, FTC Gwanara, FTC Ganduje, FGC Ugwolawo, FGGC Zaria, FGGC Kавва, FTC Kafanchan, FTC Ogugu, FGGC Bakori, FGGC Bwari, FTC Dayi, FGC Rubochi, FGC Daura, FGGC Abaji, FGGC Tambuwal, FGGC Kazaure and FSC Sokoto.
Others are FGC Kiyawa, FTC Wurno, FTC Hadejia, FGC Gusau, FGGC Potiskum, FGC Anκα, FGC Buni Yadi, FGGC Gwandu, FTC Gashua, FGC Birnin Yauri, FTC Michika, FTC Zuru, FGC Ganye and FGGC Kazaure.
ALSO shut down are FGC Azare, FGC Kiyawa, FTC Misau, FTC Hadeja, FGGC Bajoga, FGGC Bida, FGC Billiri, FGC New-Bussa, FTC Zambuk, FTC Kuta-Shiroro, FTC IKARE Akoko, FGA Suleja, FTC Ijebu-Imusin, FGC Ilorin, FTC Ushi Ekiti and FGGC Omuaran.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishop of Zaria, Most Rev. Dr. Habilah DABOH, has ordered the closure of St. Joseph Seminary, Bassawa, Zaria.
In a notice to all parents and guardians as you are aware, the Catholic Bishop of Zaria, Most Rev. Dr. Habilah Daboh, said the current insecurity in the country is a concern, especially with schools being a major target.
“After careful analysis and consultation with our Proprietor, and considering the preciousness of life, as Pope St. John Paul II would say, “defend it,” we have decided that it is best for parents to come and take their children home.
“Therefore, we request that parents come to collect their children tomorrow, Saturday 22/11/2025 and Sunday 23/11/2025. This is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of our children,” he said.
