The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has been honoured with the Excellence in Emergency Response and Humanitarian Services Award at the National Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS).
The award was presented on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia. Mrs. Umar received the honour alongside several distinguished awardees, including the Governors of Bauchi, Zamfara, Kano and Adamawa States, as well as the Ministers of Aviation and Women Affairs.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, President Tinubu congratulated the recipients and urged them to sustain the high standards of public service that earned them national acclaim.



Founder of the annual NEAPS Award, Hajiya Mariam C. Mohammed, explained that honourees were selected through a rigorous process based on their exemplary records of leadership, excellence and commitment to quality public service delivery.
The ceremony, organised by The Best Strategic Media (TBS) in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was held on Sunday, 7 December 2025, at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In her remarks, Mrs. Zubaida Umar expressed profound appreciation to the President and organisers, describing the award as a motivation to further enhance national emergency preparedness, humanitarian services and public safety across Nigeria.
The recognition highlights her transformative leadership under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which has strengthened early warning systems, improved emergency response mechanisms, deepened stakeholder collaboration and boosted national resilience to disasters.
