The Nigerian Air Force has begun an investigation into reports of civilian casualties following an air operation in Kurigi Village, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the Air Force was deeply concerned about the reported loss of lives and injuries and had activated a Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation team to probe the incident.
Ejodame said the investigation would be thorough and guided by accountability and transparency, adding that the protection of civilians remains a core part of NAF operations.
He explained that the Air Force has, over the past year, strengthened its Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Action Plan by improving training, procedures, and operational safeguards to reduce harm to non-combatants.
According to him, the NAF remains committed to taking responsibility where necessary, implementing corrective measures, and ensuring innocent lives are protected while carrying out its duty of defending the country.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred during an air operation carried out on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
