Turner reportedly died peacefully on Wednesday surrounded by family members, according to a statement released by Turner Enterprises.
The late businessman revolutionised global broadcasting when he launched Cable News Network (CNN) in 1980, creating the world’s first 24-hour television news channel. The network later became one of the most influential news organisations worldwide.
Beyond CNN, Turner built a vast media empire that included TBS, TNT and Cartoon Network. He was also known for his contributions to sports, environmental conservation and philanthropy.
Turner had publicly disclosed in 2018 that he was battling Lewy body dementia.
Tributes have continued to pour in from media executives and public figures across the world, with many describing him as a visionary who transformed television journalism and modern cable news.
