The Africa Women Conference, AWC, has congratulated Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi, on her appointment as Director-General of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, and Princess Joan Jummai Idonije as Chairman of its Governing Council.
Convener of the Conference, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, while felicitating with both appointees, described their appointments as a boost for women-focused leadership in Nigeria.
Ahmadu, in a statement she personally signed, said the appointments was a recognition of competence, dedication, and years of commitment to the advancement of women and national development.
The Conference noted that both appointees have consistently demonstrated passion for inclusive leadership, women empowerment, mentorship, and social transformation.
It added that the appointments are particularly significant because both women have remained committed advocates and supporters of the Africa Women Conference initiative, which promotes women’s participation in governance, entrepreneurship, policy development, and sustainable development across the continent.
The group further commended the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for her commitment to promoting capable women into strategic leadership positions, describing her efforts as instrumental to the continued progress of women-focused institutions in Nigeria.
The statement also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining policies and actions that encourage gender inclusion, women representation, and national development through purposeful leadership appointments.
AWC expressed confidence that the new leadership of the Centre would introduce progressive ideas, strengthen institutional capacity, foster strategic collaborations, and implement impactful programmes that would improve the lives of women, children, families, and vulnerable groups across the country.
The Governing Council is chaired by Princess Joan Jummai Idonije and includes Ms. Lois Auta, Hon. Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, and Hon. Princess Anne Agom-Eze.
