The National Examinations Council, NECO, has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE.
At least 186,291 candidates registered for the exercise nationwide.
The examination, conducted in 12 subjects, drew candidates from Nigeria’s 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and five foreign countries.
The exercise commenced on April 20 and concluded on April 30, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the results were approved for release following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
At the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr. Mrs. Folake Olatunji David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.
She commended the processes that culminated in the smooth conduct of the examination and the timely release of the results.
The award committee session was attended by NECO management officials and secondary school principals from various parts of the country, who reviewed and endorsed the examination outcomes.
The committee also approved dates for the 2026 BECE Re-sit Examination, which will take place on July 22 and 23, 2026. The exercise will cover Mathematics and English Studies.
NECO explained that the re-sit examination is specifically designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects.
The council noted that the arrangement provides affected candidates with an opportunity to address outstanding requirements and obtain the certification needed for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School One, SSS1, without having to repeat an entire academic session.
